Burnley defender Kieran Trippier concedes the team will miss Danny Ings when the striker leaves the club at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old’s departure was confirmed by Trippier following the 0-0 draw with Stoke at Turf Moor.

Ings is out of contract with the club in June, and he has opted for a new challenge following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

He will play his last game for the Clarets next weekend when they travel to FA Cup finalists Aston Villa.

Trippier said: “It will be a massive loss. Obviously you don’t want to lose your key players and everyone knows his contract is expiring but like Danny has said in the press he will give everything and that’s what he has done.

“Hopefully, he can give us another few goals against Villa.”

Trippier is confident Burnley will make a swift return to the top-flight, but reckons the nucleus of the squad will have to remain at the club.

“It means everything to the players and staff to bounce straight back next year but we know how hard the Championship is,” Trippier said.

“Hopefully we can stick together and bounce back and learn from our mistakes.”

Burnley midfielder Dean Marney will not be back in action until the end of the year after he suffered a cruciate injury in February, and he now hopes to get over a double disappointment quickly by helping the team win promotion next season.

Marney said: “To be honest it’s been one the hardest times in my career. We were in the Premier League and we were all buzzing, started to pick up a few results got ourselves in a god position and then I end up missing half the season with a cruciate.

“But rehab is going well, I’ll just get myself back fit and strong and go again next year.

“I’ve not myself any goals really. The nine month-stage is around October time so that’s probably when it is likely to be. If it’s sooner that’s great but I just want to make sure I’m fully right to push on.

“We thought we would hopefully stay in the division but it was not to be and now our aim next season is to push on and get back to where we want to be.”
