Matthew Lowton has become Burnley's first summer signing following their relegation from the Premier League.

The 26-year-old right-back, a product of Sheffield United's academy, has left Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee after agreeing a three-year deal at Turf Moor.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche told the club website: "Even back to his days at Sheffield United, I always thought Matt was a very good player and one who I think is motivated to go again.

"He has been at a big club in Aston Villa and wants to get back to the Premier League.

“The challenge for him now is to play regular first-team football and help Burnley to get back there and we look forward to welcoming him into the group."

The move had been expected for a few days with Lowton, who made 82 appearances in all competitions for Villa, helping to fill the void left by Kieran Trippier who joined Tottenham earlier this month.
