Striker could miss out due to court date

Grant Holt could miss Norwich's opening game of the new Championship season due to his trial over a motoring offence. Magistrates refused to postpone proceedings with the Canaries striker due to appear at Market Drayton Magistrates' Court in north Shropshire on Friday. The newly-promoted Carrow Road outfit kick off the new Football League season on Friday evening when they play host to Watford, live on Sky Sports HD3 and 3. Holt, who denies failing to give the identity of a vehicle's driver, will face a journey of more than 200 miles to Norwich after the case is complete in order to make the 7.45pm kick-off. The 29-year-old former Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Shrewsbury man is alleged to have failed to provide West Mercia Police with information relating to a Peugeot 307 in May 2009. Magistrates were asked earlier this week to postpone the case in order to allow Holt to play against Watford, but they rejected the request - which was opposed by the prosecution. Simeon Jackson could be handed a debut if Holt is absent following his move from Gillingham, as last season's League One winners look to hit the ground running.
