Tony Mowbray has resigned as manager of Coventry City with the club bottom of Sky Bet League One and without a league victory this season.
Wednesday's 2-2 draw at AFC Wimbledon left the Sky Blues bottom of the table with only six points and without a victory in their opening 10 matches.
Andre Wright came off the bench in injury-time to rescue a point for Coventry against the Dons at Kingsmeadow, but it was not enough to convince Mowbray to remain in the job.
Technical director Mark Venus will take charge of first-team responsibilities with immediate effect ahead of Saturday's trip to Port Vale.
A statement issued on the club's official website read: "Without a win in the first 10 league games, Tony felt on professional level that he was no longer able to take the club forward.
"Coventry City FC would like to thank Tony for all his energy and dedication over the past 18 months. We would also like to wish Tony all the very best for the future and put on record that he will always be welcome at the football club."
Mowbray, himself, had dropped a big hint that he was set to depart when speaking to the media following Wednesday's game.
The 52-year-old said: "Personally it's embarrassing to go 10 games without a win. I've just had a chat with the players and they know what's going to happen.
"They're young boys playing against big men and look like they're being bullied a little bit.
"It's my fault that we haven't got a dominant 6ft 4ins centre-half on the pitch to help the young lads.
"I feel like I've let the team down by not finding the right defender. We've tried really hard to recruit over the summer but we still couldn't find the right man that could help this team.
"They kept going yet got done by a long free-kick into the box and two headers - their first goal epitomised the night."
Former Hibernian, West Brom, Celtic and Middlesbrough boss Mowbray took charge of Coventry in March 2015 and departs with an overall record of 26 wins, 24 draws and 26 defeats in his 76 matches at the helm.
Sky Bet have installed former Rotherham and Leeds manager Steve Evans and ex-Coventry boss Steven Pressley, who quit Fleetwood in July, as the early joint-favourites to replace Mowbray.
