New technical director links up with Hoops boss Hughes for fourth time
Queens Park Rangers have appointed Manchester City's Mike Rigg as the club's new technical director.
The 43-year-old held a similar role at the Etihad Stadium but opted to join the west Londoners and link up with Hoops manager Mark Hughes for a fourth time.
The pair have previously worked together at City, Blackburn and the Welsh national team.
Rigg will spearhead the club's aim of bringing young talent into the first team through their development programme, as well as identifying their immediate transfer needs.
Understanding
"When I sat down with the owners and Mark recently they sold the project at Queens Park Rangers to me," Rigg told the club's
official website.
"I see where they want to take the club and it is something I want to be a part of.
"I have worked with Mark in a number of different roles so I have a very good understanding of what he wants and what he needs.
"Player acquisition is a big part of football and it is where an enormous amount of investment is made. That's where we must get it right."
QPR chief executive officer Philip Beard hailed Rigg's appointment and believes he will prove a vital acquisition for the club.
"This is a key appointment for the short- and long-term future of the football club," he said.
Fingers crossed
Meanwhile, chairman Tony Fernandes is confident the side will escape Premier League relegation.
Hughes has guided Rangers to four wins in their last seven matches to move three points clear of the drop zone with three games to play.
"There's still a long way to go, but those who wrote us off three weeks ago might be thinking again now," said Fernandes.
"We can't count our chickens though, because we've still got some very tough games ahead.
"But I believe in this team. We just need to keep our fingers crossed and get over the line."
