Richard Dunne accepts it will be tough for Queens Park Rangers to avoid the drop but says they will keep battling until the end of the season.

Saturday’s goalless draw with West Ham at Loftus Road leaves them four points from safety with just four matches remaining in this season's Premier League. Charlie Austin missed a first-half penalty for the hosts.

However, the veteran defender remains upbeat saying: “We need to just be professional and keep going for the next four weeks and try and pick up as many points as we can to give ourselves a chance of staying up.

“We know everyone’s got tough games, so we’ll probably need to take six or seven points and hope results go for us.

“Our next two games are away from home against the so-called bigger sides and it’s going to be very difficult for us but we need to just believe we can get something and go into the last two games of the season giving ourselves a chance of pulling it off.”

As for Austin’s first-half penalty miss, Dunne added: “No one’s going to criticise him.

“He’s put away so many chances. He’s the one who has got us there so there’s no blame attached to him - it was just one of those things.”

And Dunne believes Chris Ramsey should remain in charge at the club next season, regardless of which division Rangers are playing in: “I think he’s done very well since coming in. The lads have responded well to him.

“We’ve been organised going into the games and I think over the last month or so we’ve picked up a few points which has been an improvement.

“The longer he gets in charge, the more he will be able to build a squad himself and I think it will be a positive thing for the club.

“If the worst does happen and we do get relegated I think he’s more than capable of bringing us back up.”

And striker Bobby Zamora was also supportive of Ramsey: “I think he’s done a good job. He puts on some good sessions as well.

“We’ve been desperately unlucky in so many games. With a little bit of luck we would have been a good few points clear and then everybody would have been saying the job is his for sure.”

Zamora did not blame Austin either for the loss of two points, saying: “He’s gutted obviously, but he’s dug us out of so many situations in the past.

“Four games to go and that’s still a lot of points. As I’ve said before, until it’s mathematically not possible then of course we’ll keep fighting and keep going.”
