Queens Park Rangers are close to signing Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies, according to Sky sources.

It is believed Smithies, 25, has completed the first part of a medical at Loftus Road after a fee of £1.2m was agreed between the Championship clubs.

Smithies is expected to undergo the second part on Wednesday and it is hoped he will be available for Rangers' home game against Rotherham on Saturday.

QPR face Wolves in the Championship on Wednesday night.

Smithies started in Huddersfield's opening-day defeat at Hull City but has not featured in their subsequent four matches, including Tuesday's 1-1 home draw with Brighton.
