Leicester are close to agreeing a compensation package with Oxford United to make Michael Appleton their new assistant manager, according to Sky sources.
Craig Shakespeare worked alongside Appleton as a coach at West Bromwich Albion, and targeted him after being given a new three-year contract as Leicester manager.
Appleton was appointed Oxford manager in July 2014 and achieved promotion to Sky Bet League One in his second season with the club.
The 41-year-old, who has also managed Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn, has twice led Oxford to the Football League Trophy final, losing on both occasions.
Sky Sports News HQ also understands Leicester are still looking to sign another centre-back, despite the £17m acquisition of Harry Maguire from Hull last week.
Leicester had a £10m bid for West Brom's Jonny Evans turned down, according to Sky sources, and have since been linked in the national press with a move for Manchester United's Chris Smalling.
