Swedish youngster could sign new deal after Twente U-turn

John Guidetti looks set to sign a new deal with Manchester City after travelling on their US tour. Guidetti's previous contract with the Blues expired at the end of the season and he was on the verge of joining Dutch side FC Twente. However, the 19-year-old striker has had a change of heart and is on the brink of accepting a new offer from City. "It is very close, there's just the matter of a few details remaining," his agent Per Jonsson told the TT news agency. "Their manager, Roberto Mancini, really wants to keep him and John wants to stay and play for the club." Jonsson claimed the Premier League outfit are now the only option for Guidetti as although Leicester have admitted interest, they have ruled out making a move for the Sweden Under-21 international.

Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson was still Man City's first-team boss when they signed Guidetti in 2008 but will not try to make him Leicester's latest summer signing despite discussing the option with his management team. "We spoke about him yesterday," he told Expressen. "John is without a doubt a very good football player with technique and that is strong. But at the moment we are looking at other alternatives. "We want a player who can run deep behind the opponents' defenders and break through into the penalty area. We have at least two more players on their way in."
