Doncaster Rovers have confirmed that they have reluctantly accepted a bid from Championship rivals Leicester City for Billy Sharp.
Sky Sports revealed earlier on Saturday evening that the
Foxes had made a move for the highly-rated striker.
The 25-year-old, who has netted 10 goals for a struggling Doncaster side this season, was left out of Rovers' squad for their 2-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Notts County.
His absence sparked speculation that he was readying himself for an imminent departure from the Keepmoat Stadium.
Doncaster insist that is not the case, but they do admit to having granted Leicester permission to speak with the player.
Blow
The Foxes have activated a clause in Sharp's contract, with any potential suitor aware of the price they will have to pay in order to land the former Sheffield United and Scunthorpe United forward.
A statement released on Doncaster's
official website read: "Rovers can tonight confirm that a fee has been agreed between ourselves and Leicester City for striker Billy Sharp."
Rovers boss Dean Saunders has also given his take on the situation.
Speaking in the wake of a demoralising cup defeat to County, he said: "We've agreed a fee and now it's up to Billy.
"It will be a blow if he goes but it's not completely decided. He may decide to stay or someone else may come in for him."
