Barnsley teenager Matty Templeton has signed a new contract to keep him at Oakwell until the summer of 2017.

The 19-year-old defender, who progressed through the club's academy, has made three first-team appearances this season and the club has the option to extend his deal by a further year.

"I'm enjoying my training and my football as there are some great coaches here," Templeton told the club's official website.

"I'm grateful to everyone in the academy and the gaffer for helping me so far."

Templeton made his senior debut in the Capital One Cup at Scunthorpe in August and scored a stoppage-time winner against Blackpool in his home league debut in December.
