Tykes striker could be set for summer exit

Barnsley have admitted that they are unable to meet the wage demands of leading scorer Daniel Bogdanovic. The 14-goal Malta international, whose current contract expires at the end of the season, has rejected the club's offer of improved terms. Tykes director Don Rowing insists it would be wrong for the Oakwell outfit to jeopardise their financial security for the sake of one player. "Daniel refused a very good contract. We've reviewed our offer more than once, but Daniel didn't want to sign it," Rowing told the Sheffield Star.

Right

"It is disappointing. He wants more money than we are prepared to offer at this stage. We have to be prudent; at no stage would we compromise the position of the club. "Daniel has done really well and scored some important goals, but the deal has to be right for both parties." Despite the current deadlock, Barnsley believe there is still time to secure the future of the former Lokomotiv Sofia forward. Rowing added: "The Football League recommend that we should tell players where they stand by the third week in May, so we've still got plenty of time to sort things out. "Most contracts finish on 30th June, so really rushing contracts through at this stage makes a mockery of the agreements that are in place. "This stage of the season is very difficult because a lot of players are holding out for new deals, but at the same time they want to know their future is assured. It's a fine balancing act."
Fantastic
Despite an eight-game winless run Mark Robins' side are certain to be playing Championship football again next season and Bogdanovic has pledged to give his all for the fans in the last two matches. He added: ""The supporters here at Barnsley are just fantastic and they have really helped us this season. "I know we have given them a lot to shout about this year even though they are as frustrated as us with the way things have gone in the last month or so. "We want to push on hard in these last two matches for them."
