Dale boss decides to leave Spotland in favour of the Championship
Skysports.com understands Rochdale boss Keith Hill has agreed to take over as manager of Championship club Barnsley.
Rochdale gave their boss permission to talk to the Tykes earlier in May, but the meetings did not result in any agreement.
However, after Hill initially ruled himself out of the running for the job last week,
he reopened talks on Monday night and is now poised to succeed Mark Robins.
The 42-year-old guided Dale to promotion from League Two in 2010 and then to their joint highest position of ninth in League One last season.
Leyton Orient's Russell Slade was also a target for the Tykes but an approach for him was turned down last week.
Chesterfield chief John Sheridan was also linked with the position, but the new manager will officially be unveiled at a noon press conference at Oakwell on Wednesday.
Robins quit at the end of the season amid reports of a fall-out with the club's board over the budget for next term.
