Barnsley assistant wanted back at Spotland
Sky Sports understands that Rochdale have approached Barnsley for permission to speak to their assistant boss David Flitcroft.
Flitcroft, who played over 150 games for Dale during his playing career, has been Keith Hill's number two for more than five years and he followed him to Barnsley this summer.
Dale appointed Steve Eyre, but dismissed him in December - appointing head of youth Chris Beech on a short-term deal.
But Rochdale's hierarchy are concerned after going three games without a win and are now making plans to bring in a new permanent replacement.
And Flitcroft is seemingly at the top of their list, although it may be difficult to prise him away from Oakwell and Barnsley will be loathed to break up their managerial staff after their recent fine form.
Sky Sports understands that Phil Brown and Peter Reid are in the frame, should a deal for Flitcroft fail to materialise.
