Hull City have lost the services of striker Stephen McPhee for a lengthy period with a knee injury.

The former Coventry City and Port Vale hit-man will miss the next three to six months after being told he needs surgery on the knee problem.

The news is further blow to Tigers boss Peter Taylor, as the Hull manager has had to endure a lengthy injury list this term.

"It's a very old injury which he didn't even know he had, probably from being a young boy," Taylor told Hull's official website.

"It's a knee problem which needs sorting out. Steve needs an operation on it and will be out for between three and six months which is a bitter blow for us and for him.

"He's worked really hard to get back from the hamstring problem that he had and then this happens."
