Tigers to build on Bridges

Hull City have stumped up £350,000 to sign Carlisle United striker Michael Bridges

Hull City have stumped up £350,000 to sign Carlisle United striker Michael Bridges.

The former Sunderland ace becomes The Tigers' second attacking signing on transfer deadline day following the arrival of Nicky Forster from Ipswich Town.

Bridges has moved to The KC Stadium after reviving his career at Carlisle during the past 10 months.

He helped the club to promotion to League One, but had been keen on a move to a higher level and expressed an interest in rejoining Sunderland.

But Hull have stumped up the cash, with Carlisle admitting they are sad to see the 28-year-old move on.

"We really did want to keep him, but Michael was determined that he wanted to join a Championship club, and we cannot hold him back from realising that ambition," Carlisle owner Fred Story told the club's official website.

"We are not a selling club, and whilst money is always welcome, we would have much rather have kept the player.

"However, you can't stand in a player's way and I am happy to thank Michael for his contribution to Carlisle United, and wish him well for the future.

"We do have a small squad now, but we are in a strong position to bring players in when the loan window opens, and we have committed players and coaches here at the club, so I am confident that we can move on."
