Keeper pleased to take mind off relegation woe

Boaz Myhill has admitted that being away on international duty with Wales has eased the pain of relegation. Myhill's club, Hull City, were sent back down to the Championship after a two-season stay in the top flight, with the goalkeeper a crucial part of the team for the majority of both campaigns for the Tigers. Despite being dropped from Hull's first team in favour of Matt Duke, the 27-year-old has now broken into the Wales squad and is competing for the number one jersey with Wolves' Wayne Hennessey. "Obviously the club season has finished now, but it was good to finish wearing a different shirt.," he said. "The season has barely finished. It didn't hit home after we got promoted until the fixtures came out, so we'll just get this summer out of the way, work hard and go back to Hull ready to start again." Myhill played 45 minutes of the Dragons' 2-0 defeat at the hands of Croatia on Sunday, but refused to comment on the Tigers' financial position, with debts reportedly to the tune of £35million, a lot of players' futures in doubt and the possibility of administration. "I don't want to talk about that," Myhill said. "Nothing's been decided."

Not too disappointed

With regards to the game, Myhill conceded that they were beaten by a side with ultimately more quality than his team possessed, especially with a host of first team names such as Simon Davies, Gareth Bale and Craig Bellamy absent from proceedings. "It has been a chance to look at a few different players and I don't think anyone has done themselves a disservice really," he added. "It has been a couple of weeks since the end of the season and a lot of the boys haven't had a game for a while and I think that showed at stages. "Ultimately we came up against a very tidy side so it is difficult to get too disappointed - but obviously we want to get better. "We might have kept the ball a bit better in stages but when you come up against a player with the quality of Luka Modric, it is going to be difficult. "Unfortunately we haven't managed to get the result we are after but there is no shame in getting beaten here by a very good Croatian team."
