Leeds fans have come out in droves again after Luciano Becchio won the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award.

Becchio puts Beckford in the shade...for a change

Leeds fans have come out in droves again after Luciano Becchio was voted as the League One PFA Fans' Player of the Month for February. With a hat-trick of awards for Jermaine Beckford and one for Robert Snodgrass this prestigious award has found an almost permanent home at Elland Road. Becchio has shot back into the spotlight during February after scoring a crucial brace against Oldham that handed them only their second win in nine matches. The Argentinian striker was praised by manager Simon Grayson for his contribution and he is expecting more of the same as the season reaches its climax. Grayson said: "It has been a difficult season for Luciano because after starting the season he was out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury. "Trying to recapture his form has been difficult but he got a couple of goals a few weeks ago at Hartlepool which kicked him on.

Quality

"I left him out at the weekend because he had played a lot of games but he showed the quality we know he possesses. Hopefully now he has the confidence and belief to go on and get another six to ten goals to help us win promotion." Becchio started his career at Boca Juniors and moved on to Spain where he became renowned as a lethal marksman in the lower leagues with Mérida UD in the Spanish Segunda División B. He joined Leeds on trial in July 2008 under Gary McAllister and was handed a three-year contract later that month and has already snared 11 this time round in a campaign that has been hampered by injuries. The Cordoba-born 26-year-old hit an impressive five goals last month and this tally endeared him to the Leeds faithful where he is rapidly earning cult status. With the Whites stuttering a little in terms of league form, Grayson will be delighted at the impact Becchio is making as they bid to fend off the chasing pack in their bid for automatic promotion. Leeds teammate and keeper Casper Ankergran was also in the running for our monthly award, along with Southampton's free-scoring striker Rickie Lambert and Norwich's Chris Martin - but it was Becchio who was givemefootball readers' pick of the bunch.
