Leeds United youngster Zac Thompson has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Leeds United youngster Zac Thompson has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract. The 18-year-old former Everton youngster has penned a deal until 2013 after impressing during his time with the club. Thompson only joined Leeds' scholarship scheme in January and was successfully awarded his first professional contract at the end of the season after impressing the club's management. Manager Simon Grayson has been delighted with the teenager's progress and is now looking forward to having him available again following an ankle injury.

Impression

"Zac has made an impression since he's been here," Grayson told the club's official website. "He had a good pre-season, he got himself involved in merit, and not only did he play a part, he impressed in what he did and how he went about things. "Unfortunately, we lost him with an ankle injury at a time when he was in and around things, but hopefully he shouldn't be too far away from stepping things up again."
Youngsters
Grayson is very much about promoting youngsters from within following the emergence of Tom Lees and Charlie Taylor, and the Elland Road tactician is happy with their production line. "We like what we've seen with a number of the younger players," he continued. "They've grasped their opportunities and they've done well. Young players are always the future of your club and we're pleased to have some youngsters here who are ready to step up and take their chances. "If I believe young players deserve an opportunity I will give them one."
