Sparta land Luton target

Sparta Rotterdam have beaten Luton to the capture of Anthony Obodai.

The 23-year-old had been made available for transfer by Ajax after failing to make the grade in Amsterdam and his status alerted a clutch of clubs.

Luton came forward with an offer which met favour with Obodai and the Championship side were confident of pushing through a deal.

However, Sparta came in with a rival offer over the weekend and Obodai opted to remain in the Netherlands and sign a two-year deal with the Rotterdam club.
