Northampton forward Ricky Holmes has requested to leave the club, the Cobblers have confirmed.
Town, promoted as Sky Bet League 2 champions last season, have rejected offers for the player this summer but the 28-year-old has now asked to go.
Northampton said on their official Twitter account: "We can confirm we have rejected various offers for midfielder Ricky Holmes, however the player has now handed in a formal transfer request."
Cobblers chairman Kelvin Thomas admitted that Holmes wanting to depart was "a game changer" but insisted that a transfer would only happen if the club in question met their valuation of the player.
"We have rejected offers because we don't want to lose Ricky, however his request is a bit of a game changer and we will continue discussions over the next few days with both Ricky and the club concerned," Thomas told the club's official website.
"Both understand that if anything is going to happen then the club's valuation will need to be met."
Holmes joined Northampton in the summer of 2013 from Portsmouth and scored 11 times last season to help Chris Wilder's side win the title to seal their return to League One.
