League One round-up: Ellis Harrison hits four for Bristol Rovers, Sheffield United stretch lead
Saturday 7 January 2017 19:50, UK
Ellis Harrison scored a seven-minute hat-trick for Bristol Rovers, while Sheffield United stretched their lead at the top.
Harrison completed his treble between the 17th and 24th minutes and went one better with a fourth goal in the 54th minute as Rovers consigned Northampton to an eighth defeat in 10 league matches with a 5-0 thrashing.
Former Northampton forward Billy Bodin had earlier put Rovers ahead and they were in complete control throughout against the struggling Cobblers to complete a victory which puts them just a point outside of the play-off places.
There was no change at the top of the table as leaders Sheffield United and second-placed Scunthorpe both recorded victories.
Ethan Ebanks-Landell set the Blades en route to a 4-2 victory at Southend but Simon Cox restored parity 16 minutes later.
Jack O'Connell had Chris Wilder's men back in front just before the interval and further goals from Caolan Lavery and Kieron Freeman put the game beyond Southend's reach, although they did score a consolation goal through Jermaine McGlashan.
Harry Toffolo and Stephen Dawson put Scunthorpe 2-0 up against Bury before George Miller cut the deficit on 41 minutes.
Josh Morris scored what turned out to be the decisive goal in a 3-2 win, meaning Kelvin Etuhu's second-half strike was all in vain.
Bradford overtook Rochdale in fourth with a 2-0 win over troubled Chesterfield, with Mark Marshall and Jordy Hiwula on target.
Mat Sadler's 80th-minute strike cancelled out John Goddard's penalty as Swindon and Shrewsbury shared the points from a 1-1 draw.
