Carlisle boss praises striker after winning goal against Wycombe

Carlisle United striker Vincent Pericard required an injection in his Achilles tendon before scoring the winner against Wycombe Wanderers. Pericard grabbed the only goal of the game at Brunton Park on Saturday to take his tally to six since joining Carlisle in October. Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott praised the former Portsmouth man after revealing he needed an injection in the lead-up to the game. "We kept the injection secret," Abbott said. "Vince just gets on with the job and he put in a good shift." Carlisle continued their climb up the League One table after a poor start to the season, despite a spirited display by the visitors. Abbott said: "It's a nice place to be right now. It's important we try to keep it going. We've had some tough times and we are turning the corner, looking forward rather than with trepidation. "We played some fantastic football in the first half and could have been out of sight in the first 10 minutes. "Most important was our clean sheet. We protected our goal well and we will always create chances and score goals the way we are playing at the moment."
