Full-back still hoping to secure move away from Colchester
Colchester United's wantaway defender Matt Lockwood insists a return to Dagenham & Redbridge is not on the cards.
The former Nottingham Forest full-back impressed whilst on loan with the League Two outfit last month and is eager to seal a move away from the Us having been cast aside by manager Aidy Boothroyd.
However, the 33-year-old told
skysports.com that an imminent return to Dagenham looks unlikely even though he would be interested in doing so.
"It is always good to play for a side which are doing well and during my time there they were competing for top spot in the table, so every game was a big one," said Lockwood.
"I really enjoyed it and I knew a couple of the boys there before I got there, so it was a great move for me.
"Dagenham were keen to keep me on there, but they didn't want to extend the loan because they would have needed to include a 24-hour recall into the deal and they didn't like that.
"I reassured them that it would be very unlikely that Colchester would want me back, but that was their decision and I had to come back.
"The gaffer only wants permanent players there, which I don't mind, but they have to go through Colchester for that first.
"It is just a case of sitting and hoping that someone remembers what I can do and are looking for an experienced left-back that can still play a bit."
