Southend deny reports of striker agreement

Southend have denied they have agreed a deal with anyone over the services of in-demand striker Lee Barnard. Leeds have been heavily linked with the striker as Simon Grayson looks to shore up United's promotion challenge, while Southampton have also been mooted as admirers of Barnard. It had been speculated that Leeds have brokered a deal with Southend, something the club have now denied. Southend have confirmed there is interest in their free-scoring marksman, but say he will stay unless a deal is agreed.

Untrue

"Following reports in a national newspaper this morning that Lee Barnard has transferred to Leeds United, Southend United can categorically deny that this rumour is true," read a statement on the club's official website. "Although there have been three interested parties in signing Lee during this transfer window, no offer has currently been accepted by the football club. "At the moment, we fully expect Lee to be in the starting line-up for Saturday's game against Wycombe Wanderers."
