Midfielder signs on a free transfer

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of former Motherwell midfielder Giles Coke. The 24-year-old former Queens Park Rangers trainee, who has also had spells at Northampton and Mansfield, has penned a three-year deal at Hillsborough ahead of the Owls' pre-season tour of Austria on Saturday. He moves on a free transfer after his contract with the SPL outfit expired and becomes manager Alan Irvine's fifth signing of the summer. Coke follows Chris Sedgwick, Jon Otsemobor, Paul Heffernan and Daniel Jones to the South Yorkshire club as they look to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking. Irvine told the club's official website: "He is a two-footed, athletic midfielder and I have been aware of him since his time at Mansfield and Northampton. "He has played a lot of games in League One and a lot of games for his age." Wednesday were relegated to the third tier on the final day of last season following a home draw against Crystal Palace.
