Bristol Rovers have signed Wigan goalkeeper Lee Nicholls on loan for three months.

The 22-year-old will go straight into the squad to face his former club Accrington on Saturday, subject to paperwork, following Aaron Chapman's return to parent club Chesterfield.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke said: "He's a player I've been interested in signing for a while as we heard that he might be available for a loan move at some point.

"He's an experienced goalkeeper, having played a full season for Northampton and appearing in a play-off final for them.

"Last season he appeared in the Europa League for Wigan and he's a little bit more experienced than Aaron (Chapman), who has done well for us during his time here.

"I would like to thank Aaron for his efforts while he has been with us and he returns to Chesterfield with our best wishes."

Nicholls progressed through Wigan's youth system and made his first senior appearance for the club in an FA Cup tie against Hull in January 2010.

He has had previous loan spells at Hartlepool, Shrewsbury, Sheffield Wednesday, Accrington and Northampton.
