The first round draw for this season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy has taken place, with some intriguing local derbies drawn.Formerly the LDV Vans Trophy, The Football League have introduced several changes for the cup competition for clubs in Leagues One and Two.
Unlike recent seasons, clubs from the Nationwide Conference are not involved this term, with the opening round ties having been subdivided into four regions - North West, North East, South West and South East.
This is to ensure more local cup ties among the participating clubs, as The Football League try and raise the profile and appeal of the competition.
In an effort to try and encourage more families to games, children under 16 will receive free entry to Johnstone's Paint Trophy matches, with clubs required to field near full-strength squads in the process.
To avoid late finishes to the cup ties, games will also be decided on penalties, should it finish level after 90 minutes of action.
The first round draw itself, which was conducted by Helen Chamberlain and Tim Lovejoy from Sky Sports' Soccer AM show on Saturday morning, saw several interesting ties to open the competition.
Local rivals Lincoln City and Grimsby Town meet in the North East section, while Cheshire clubs Macclesfield Town and Stockport County clash from the North West section.
Hereford United will take on local rivals Shrewsbury Town at Edgar Street in a South West section tie.
The first round matches are due to take place in the week commencing October 16.
