Bristol City new boy Lee Tomlin wants to become a hero by firing the club away from the Championship relegation zone.

Bournemouth forward Tomlin joined City on loan until the end of the season on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old has only featured in the Premier League with Eddie Howe's side six times this season and has moved to play more first-team football.

City, who sacked manager Steve Cotterill earlier this month, are third from bottom in the league and Tomlin could make his debut in Saturday's clash with Birmingham City.

The striker is looking to make an instant impact.

He told the FL72 Podcast: "We're not too far off relegation and seeing the lads train today proves that they're good lads and good players. It shouldn't take much more to keep us up. Hopefully we can do that. I want to play games and be a hero by keeping them up. I've not looked past this season. For me it's about playing games and keeping this club up."

The 27-year-old former Peterborough player joined the Cherries for £3m from Middlesbrough last summer, but struggled to break into the first-team.

Tomlin feels the injury to striker Callum Wilson, with whom he had started to forge a good understanding with, hindered his chances of becoming a first-team regular.

He said: "In the games I played in I did really well. What killed me a little bit was Callum Wilson getting injured - we were starting to develop a really good partnership - but that is what happens in football.

"It can turn like that. I'm excited about playing and I'm looking forward to it. It might take me a few games but the last time I played I felt quite good - hopefully I can just kick on from that.

"There's no pressure on me. I just go and play. If you express yourself then you should do OK."
