Experienced manager named Bristol City boss

Steve Coppell has been confirmed as the new manager of Bristol City and will take up his post on 11th May. Keith Millen, who has been acting as interim boss following the departure of Gary Johnson, will remain at the helm for the final two games of the season and has been named as Coppell's assistant. The former Crystal Palace and Reading manager has been out of the game since departing the Madejski Stadium at the end of last season. Coppell, who has signed a 12-month rolling contract, will not be in attendance for the Championship fixtures against Derby and Blackpool due to family commitments. The experienced boss has won promotion to the top flight three times, including setting a record haul of 106 points with Reading four years ago, and will be looking for a fourth at Ashton Gate.

Busy summer

He said: "Every manager knows that promotion is his brief and I'm no different. "This is a club that wants to go forward and wants to be in the top division. It's my opportunity to take this club there and that is our challenge. "No one person can do it by themselves and we will need to work as a team. "Football is a week-to-week industry and I will be looking for improvement. Everyone is judged on results and we need to win games but we need to finish strongly this season and look to kick on. "We have obviously discussed budgets but there has not been a figure put on it. I know that the chairman has always been supportive and if I go to him he will help me bring players in. "I will take over at the end of the season and we are already planning to fill gaps in the squad. I have been talking to Keith and watching DVDs of players and we expect a busy summer."
Track record
Robins chairman Steve Lansdown told the club's official website: "I'm delighted that Steve has agreed to become the new manager of Bristol City FC. "Steve arrives with a track record and pedigree that shows the ambition this football club has. We're aiming to play at the highest possible level. "I'd also like to thank Keith Millen for all the hard work he has put in over the past seven games and I'm pleased he will continue to work with the first-team as assistant manager. Keith was also key in bringing Steve to Ashton Gate. "I think we now have a very strong management team to take this football club forward."
