Bolton midfielder Liam Trotter is expected to complete a one-month loan deal to Sky Bet Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

It is believed the finishing touches are being put to a move which will see the 27-year-old link up with former Wanderers boss and current Forest chief Dougie Freedman, who took him to the Macron Stadium in 2014 on a three-year deal.

Trotter has been battling injury this term and has featured just once in an area of the field where Bolton boss Neil Lennon has plenty of options anyway, and his departure could free up funds to land a striker, which remains the club's number one priority.

Meanwhile, Lennon has been fined £3,500 by the Football Association and warned over his future conduct following comments he made about referee Darren Drysdale in the aftermath of the 4-3 defeat to QPR in Bolton's last game.

Lennon said at the time: "I've never seen a more biased performance from a referee in a long time. He gave QPR everything he possibly could, I was so frustrated with that."
