Pompey chief heads Forest's wanted list

Steve Cotterill is in pole position for the vacant manager's job at Nottingham Forest, skysports.com understands. Forest have targeted the Portsmouth boss as replacement for Steve McClaren following his decision to resign earlier this month. A number of names, including Roy Keane and Karl Robinson have been linked with the City Ground vacancy, but it appears Cotterill is now at the top of Forest's wanted list. Bristol City have also been linked with a move for Cotterill as they seek a replacement for Keith Millen, but Forest are now thought to be ready to make an official approach for the former Notts County chief. Cotterill has been in charge of Portsmouth since the summer of 2010 and has helped bring stability to the club despite crippling off-the-field financial problems. The 47-year-old is regarded as one of the best coaches in the country and Forest believe he is the right man to transform their fortunes after a poor start to the season.
