Algerian duo Djamel Abdoun and Rafik Djebbour are set to leave Nottingham Forest.
Both players, brought to the club by former manager Billy Davies, were overlooked towards the end last season following Davies' departure, amid suggestions that their presence in the squad was disruptive.
New boss Stuart Pearce has taken advice from Gary Brazil, who finished the 2013/14 campaign as caretaker manager, and club ambassador John McGovern and he plans to edge them out of the City Ground exit door in the coming weeks.
Following a meeting with Abdoun and his agents this week, the winger has been told he is free to find another club. He will continue to train with Forest in the meantime.
However, Djebbour will not train with the squad and Pearce has confirmed that the club are close to agreeing a deal to cancel the striker's contract.
"We have had a meeting with Djamel and his agent earlier this week and told him he is free to leave the club," Pearce told the Nottingham Post.
"He is actively looking for a new club now. In the meantime, he will continue to train with us - when it is appropriate. But he has been told that he is free to leave the club.
"Rafik will be leaving the club. A deal is in the process of being struck, or perhaps has been struck.
"He has not been back for pre-season, he will not be back at the club."
