Holloway's men to start season at DW Stadium

Blackpool have been forced to move their opening Premier League game with Wigan to the DW Stadium from Bloomfield Road. The game has been moved because of concerns over the redevelopment of Bloomfield Road. The Seasiders cannot give the Premier League the 100 per cent guarantee it requires to stage the game because work on the east stand is yet to be finished. Blackpool had requested an away match to start the season, but when the fixtures came out they found themselves at Bloomfield Road on the opening weekend of the campaign. The Premier League new boys were due to kick-off life in the top flight with a home clash with Wigan on 14th August, but now, after talks with the Premier League, the game will be switched to the DW Stadium. It means the home meeting with Wigan will now take place on 16th April 2011. A Premier League statement read: "The board felt it was important to take this decision as early as possible if there was any potential for Blackpool FC's stadium not being ready for the first match of the season. "This is the only Blackpool FC fixture that will be affected and this decision will give both clubs and their supporters maximum time to plan accordingly." The statement added: "The board would like to put on record its thanks to both Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan RL, whose flexibility in the circumstances has been extremely helpful."
