Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston warned by supporters group

Chairman Karl Oyston has been warned that Blackpool's stay-away fans are not coming back any time soon.

Swathes of seats have been left empty at Bloomfield Road for the past two matches against Charlton and Leeds, with hundreds of supporters opting to attend non-league side AFC Blackpool's game last weekend instead.

They were boycotting the Whites fixture over Oyston's running of the bottom-of-the-table Sky Bet Championship club, whose inevitable relegation to the third tier could be confirmed in their next match against Bolton.

The Seasiders recently announced pre-tax profits of £9.4million for the financial year ending May 2014, but Oyston could be hit in the pocket if supporters continue to avoid Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoons.

Stephen Smith, a spokesperson for the fans' group Tangerine Knights, said: "I don't expect attendances to go up any time soon, if I'm reflecting the views of most of the fans I've spoken to, until the Oystons have gone."

Over 500 fans watched AFC Blackpool, whose attendance is usually around just 35, on Saturday and the strength of feeling against Oyston means many supporters of the Championship club could be back in future weeks.

"It was an excellent day and an enjoyable game of football," Smith added.

"The fans all had a very good day out which was the main thing. A few of them are talking about actually going to watch AFC when Blackpool are playing away, so it's a good investment for a local football team."
