Nile Ranger's Blackpool career could be over after the forward suggested he was turned away from the club's training ground by new manager Neil McDonald.

The 24-year-old, who failed to attend training with the Seasiders since the beginning of November due to a dispute over his wages, had his contract extended by a further 12 months in May after Blackpool surprisingly activated an option in his pre-existing deal.

Ranger failed to report for the beginning of pre-season training on June 29, but following talks with McDonald was expected to join up with the rest of the squad ahead of the new season.

However, on his arrival on Wednesday - a month later than originally expected - the former Newcastle United forward was told by McDonald to drive back to London.

Following the incident, Ranger took to social media website Instagram to reveal his anger and called for the Professional Footballers' Association to step in.

Ranger posted: "How can I report for training in Blackpool and get told to get in my car and drive back to London by the manager. Shambles. PFA PFA PFA PFA PFA PFA PLEASSEEEEE!!!"

McDonald, a former assistant to Sam Allardyce at West Ham and Blackburn Rovers, was appointed as Lee Clark's successor at Bloomfield Road in June on a one-year rolling contract.

The situation with Ranger will certainly be an unwelcome distraction for the 49-year-old, who is attempting to rebuild a squad capable of securing an immediate return to the Championship.

Following relegation to League One, 17 first-team players were released, including former Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso and Chelsea academy graduate Jacob Mellis.
