Tranmere 1-0 Port Vale

James Norwood's fifth goal in as many games earned Tranmere a narrow 1-0 victory over Port Vale at Prenton Park.

The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw with very few opportunities created but Norwood struck with just 13 minutes remaining to clinch all three points for the hosts, moving them into the top half of the League Two table.

Rovers had enjoyed greater possession than their guests, who arrived without a win on the road in 14 attempts.

A drive from Ollie Banks was palmed away by Scott Brown and Connor Jennings fired an effort just wide, with the only real first-half scoring opportunities going Tranmere's way.

Leon Legge headed the ball over the crossbar in the second half for Vale but - after 77 minutes - Tranmere took the lead.

The goal came about when a cross-shot from Banks was met by Norwood on the slide in the six-yard box and, although his initial effort was saved, he recovered quickest to tap home on the line.

Substitute Paul Mullin and Norwood both missed late chances but they proved immaterial, as the Birkenhead club held on for the narrow win.
