Rovers reward defender with one-year contract

Tranmere defender Marlon Broomes has signed a new one-year contract with the League One outfit. The 32-year old joined the Prenton Park side last summer after being released by Blackpool. Centre-back Broomes made 35 appearances in the 2009/10 campaign, scoring once in the 2-1 home victory over Southampton in March. Manager Les Parry said: "Marlon did really well for us last season and was one of our most consistent players. "He showed how versatile he is by playing at centre-back and right-back and is a very experienced, professional player. "I'm delighted he has agreed to stay with us for another season." Broomes, a former England Under-21 international who started his career at Blackburn, had spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Preston and Stoke before signing for Blackpool in July 2008.
