Saunders looking to bag defender on 18-month deal

Doncaster Rovers are closing in on the permanent signing of Habib Beye after Aston Villa confirmed his departure. The 34-year-old full-back had been on a season-long loan with Championship club Rovers. He is now a free agent after the Midlands club confirmed the experienced defender has left Villa Park by mutual consent. "Aston Villa can confirm that defender Habib Beye has left by mutual agreement with the club," read a club statement.

Contract

Rovers boss Dean Saunders earlier revealed the south Yorkshire side are keen to secure Beye on an 18-month contract. "We are trying to keep him for 18 months and we are trying to do that soon," stated Saunders. "He wants to stay, that's the main thing so hopefully we can get round the figures." The former Senegal international has featured nine times for Rovers following his November switch, but is currently in the middle of a three-match ban after his red card at Bristol City a fortnight ago.
