Rovers set for 'traditional' rebuild of squad ahead of League One return
Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan has confirmed the club's controversial transfer policy under the guidance of agent Willie McKay will not continue following their Championship relegation.
Doncaster-based McKay linked up with Rovers to bring in a host of big-name players using his vast network of footballing contacts.
Former Premier League stars El-Hadji Diouf, Pascal Chimbonda and Habib Beye were among the stars who moved to the Keepmoat Stadium on short-term deals.
But it was not enough to save Dean Saunders' men from becoming the first English side to be relegated this season.
Long-serving winger James Coppinger has hinted the influx of players created a division in the playing squad and did little to help the dressing room harmony.
Traditional
"Willie McKay loves the club and offered his support to try and help keep us in the division," Ryan told the club's
official website.
"Unfortunately, and with no blame attributed to Willy, that didn't happen.
"So now being back in League One gives us the opportunity to go back to a more traditional transfer policy.
"We are now looking to rebuild the squad, aiming to keep the players we can afford, to develop from our successful youth team and look to use players who can be the future of the club for years to come."
