Dover left fuming as boss leaves club for Gillingham

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has angered former employers Dover by naming Ian Hendon as his new assistant at Priestfield. Dover had only named former Barnet manager Hendon as Hessenthaler's replacement 18 days ago. However, Hessenthaler has now convinced his former Barnet team-mate to join him at Gillingham after Mark Robson decided he could not accept the role as assistant manager for "personal reasons". And having now lost Hessenthaler, Hendon and Darren Hare, who left the Crabble to head up Gillingham's academy, to the Gills in recent weeks, Dover chairman Jim Parmenter has launched a scathing attack on his Kent rivals.

Upset

He told the official Dover website: "I'm upset because we released Andy from his contract here to enable him to take the Gillingham job. "But since then he has taken Darren Hare from our youth academy, which was a huge blow for us and I've spent the last two weeks putting a new structure in place, which included Ian Hendon. "And now he has actually taken our manager, the person he gave a reference to for the job in the first place! "As far as I'm concerned, a line has been crossed." Meanwhile, Dover have appointed former Arsenal and Celtic winger Martin Hayes as their new manager following Hendon's shock departure.
