Defender Ritchie Sutton has been handed a short-term contract with Port Vale and is eager to shine after being given a second chance in the Football League.
The 24-year-old, who was on the books of semi-professional team Nantwich Town, was released by the Alex in 2007 without making a first-team appearance.
Sutton was offered a trial spell with Vale in pre-season and did enough to convince manager Micky Adams that he could make the grade in League Two.
He will now travel with the Valiants to Ireland as they continue their preparations for the new campaign.
Massive chance
Sutton told the club's
official website: "I'm just glad it is all sorted through now. It's been a stressful time since 1st July and being offered something is brilliant news.
"I feel like it's in my own hands now - it's a massive chance to get back into the Football League and show everyone how I can play."
Sutton admitted Adams' pre-season regime had been tough but believes it will stand the squad in good stead as they target a promotion push.
He added: "I've never experienced anything like it before. It's a shock to the system, but I am definitely feeling better for it."
