Former Doncaster and Oldham boss Dave Penney has expressed his interest in taking charge of Port Vale.

Ex-Vale striker Foyle also willing to help out

Former Doncaster Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Darlington manager Dave Penney has expressed his interest in taking charge of Port Vale. The League Two club are looking for a new boss after Micky Adams left the post on Thursday to take over at boyhood heroes Sheffield United. The search is on for Adams' successor and Penney has declared he would be keen to be considered a contender for the position. Penney has been out of management since leaving Oldham towards the end of last season and was recently linked with SPL side Motherwell.

Success

"I know League Two well having achieved success with Doncaster and Darlington," said Penney in The Sentinel. "I would feel comfortable working at that level, so I'd be interested." Meanwhile, former Vale striker Martin Foyle has confirmed he would be prepared to help out caretaker managers Geoff Horsfield and Mark Grew if his services are required. The ex-York City boss said: "I'd love to come back to the club in some sort of coaching capacity. "It's important the club doesn't panic. Geoff and Grewy are there, so give them the reins because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. "But if they need someone to help them out I'd be more than happy to do so, because the club is close to my heart."
