Northampton have signed Shrewsbury striker James Collins on loan until the end of the season.
Collins has been a Shrews regular this season, featuring in 23 of the club's 25 Sky Bet League One games and scoring seven times.
But Northampton have signed the 25-year-old former Aston Villa trainee in an attempt to bolster their League Two promotion hopes.
"We are delighted to bring in a player of this quality and it is important that we strengthen the squad when we are doing well," Northampton manager Chris Wilder told the club's official website.
"We are not looking to take anything away from the squad, we only want to add and James adds quality and depth to the existing squad.
"He has scored goals at this level and played a key part in a promotion-winning team in League Two last season.
"He fits into our system and the way we want to play, we have known about him and followed his career for a long time and it is pleasing we have been able to add a player of this quality so early in the January transfer window."
