Northampton's new signing Clive Platt has revealed the reasons behind his decision to leave Coventry.
The 34-year-old snubbed a contract offer from the Sky Blues after two years at the club to drop into League Two with Northampton.
The experienced target man has now told
Sky Sports that the chance to work with former Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd was an offer he could not refuse.
"It is a new challenge for me with a club that is in League Two and is looking to do well in that division next year, so I can't wait to be a part of that," he said.
"It was an awkward one because I really enjoyed my time at Coventry and have left a lot of good friends behind, but I just feel that the club is going through a tough transitional period at the moment and their goals don't match mine.
Ambitious
"I'm getting to the twilight of my career at the age of 34 and I felt that going to a club where there are goals in the forefront matched what I want to do.
"Aidy was one of the main reasons that I came here because I've worked with him before and know what he is like as a manager.
"I know that he will get the best out of me and is incredibly ambitious, so he will be aiming to get this club promoted next year.
"Second best is not good enough for him and that's music to my ears because I still have a drive to win things before my career's finished."
