Huddersfield have announced the appointment of former Terriers player Julian Winter as the club's new chief executive just a day after he resigned from a similar role at Notts County.

The Huddersfield-born 50 year-old, who played for the club between 1984 and 1989, was previously chief executive at Watford and Sheffield United before he joined Sky Bet League 2 club Notts in October 2015.

Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle said in a statement on the club's website: "I'm very happy to welcome Julian to the club as our new chief executive.

"The process in finding and appointing the new chief executive has been excellent and very thorough; we interviewed a good number of high-quality candidates for the role.

"There's no doubt that his knowledge of the club as a former player and Huddersfield-born man will be an asset, but his appointment is down to far more than that. During the interview process, Julian was the stand-out candidate because of the experience, knowledge and expertise he will bring.

"This is a very exciting time thanks to the energy David Wagner has brought to the pitch together with our season-ticket offer and Julian is the right man to lead the club into its next chapter."

Winter came through Town's youth system and made 87 starts and six substitute appearances, scoring five goals.

Most of his time was spent in the second tier under managers Mick Buxton, Steve Smith and Malcolm Macdonald, as well as playing under Eoin Hand in the old Division Three.

Winter suffered a career-ending injury during pre-season after moving to Sheffield United and then studied a degree in Leisure and Recreation Management at Sheffield Hallam University.

He will take up his new role with Huddersfield after Easter and in the meantime will remain at Meadow Lane during a handover of duties at Notts County who announced his resignation on March 3.
