A place in the third round is up for grabs as FA Cup action returns

A possible meeting with a Premier League heavyweight will provide the incentive for those in FA Cup second round action this weekend. Those that can safely negotiate the next hurdle placed in front of them can start dreaming of grand days out, or a memorable visit from one of the country's leading lights. It is, however, important not to take your eye off the ball, with the FA Cup littered with the scalps of those who tripped when they were expected to spring forward. With four sides from outside the Football League set to go head-to-head against each other on Saturday, non-league representation in the third round is guaranteed. Blue Square Premier rivals Gateshead and Tamworth will square up in the North East, while Blue Square Bet South outfit Salisbury City will play host to Premier side Grimsby. Elsewhere, Evo-Stik League Southern hopefuls Stourbridge will look to spring a surprise against a side that become renowned for cup heroics during their days in the non-league, Stevenage.

Unbeaten

Luton are pushing for promotion back into the Football League, but will have their sights locked on League Two high fliers Cheltenham this weekend. Southend sit top of the fourth tier standings and a side that has gone unbeaten since September will hope their momentum carries them past League One side Oldham. There are three other League One versus League Two ties to keep an eye on, with third tier Leyton Orient set to face Gillingham. Both Sheffield clubs will take on fourth tier opposition in the second round, with United at home to Torquay and Wednesday set to welcome Aldershot to Hillsborough. There will also be an all-League Two tussle at the Greenhous Meadow between Shrewsbury and Rotherham. Sunday will then see another side synonymous with the FA Cup thrust into the spotlight, with Sutton United - who beat Coventry in the third round back in 1989 - set to play host to Martin Allen's Notts County.
