Pre-season favourites Southampton suffered a shock 1-0 opening day defeat to relegated Plymouth in Saturday's early kick-off.
After dominating for long spells, Saints went down to a close-range Luke Summerfield strike two minutes after half-time.
Despite Southampton piling on the pressure in the second period, visiting boss Peter Reid enjoyed his first competitive win in charge of the Pilgrims, who dropped out of the npower Championship last season.
