Top scorer eyeing more goals and a new deal at Cheltenham

Cheltenham striker Darryl Duffy wants to build on his performances last season and earn a new deal at Whaddon Road. The Robins' season ended in play-off final disappointment but the 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive first season for the club, scoring 15 goals after joining from Bristol Rovers last summer. And Duffy is hoping to improve on that tally in the coming season - if given the opportunity. The Scot told Sky Sports: "I finished top scorer at the club, four clear of the next of the boys, and I only started half of the games too, so it was a reasonably successful season for me personally.

Disappointed

"I was a little disappointed to end the season with a tally of 15 goals to be honest and it would have been nice to get to 20 and perhaps I would have hit that mark if I'd started more games. "Hopefully, I can hit the ground running and cement my place in the starting line-up so that I can beat that tally this season." Duffy is entering the final year of his contract at Whaddon Road but is happy to see how the new season pans out before resolving his long-term future. He added: "I'm pretty happy to see how things go really because I've got a contract for one more year here and if I can start the season well then Cheltenham might be keen to offer me a new contract come January. "That sort of thing doesn't really play on my mind too much, so we'll just take things as they come and see what happens down the line."
