Chesterfield have been charged by the FA for 'financial irregularities' over the wages of two ex-players.

The allegation is that an external organisation, CFC Football Development School Ltd, paid the wages of former players Jake Orrell and Myles Wright and the club did not fully record the payments on its accounting records.

Chesterfield have requested a hearing over the charge, which relates to FA Rule C1. The club has until May 17 to respond.

Director & company secretary Ashley Carson confimed: "Following the charge, we will be making a request for a hearing to put our case forward."

Chesterfield - the fourth oldest League club in the country - were relegated to non-league football last week after 97 years, and just three seasons since they contested a League One play-off semi-final.

Owner Dave Allen has been actively trying to sell the club after resigning from the board last year, but has since resumed much of his previous role.
